SHE’S done it again — Amy Shark is the Gold Coast Music Awards Artist of the Year for the third year running.
The 32-year-old Gold Coast local has won the gong last night in Surfers Paradise and will also be the first person to be inducted into a new Gold Coast Music Hall Of Fame.
Shark wasn’t there to accept her award as she is in Western Australia for her Love Monster tour preparing to perform at the Freemantle Arts Centre tomorrow - but she did pay tribute to the local music industry.
“Thank you so much for these incredible awards and for inducting me as your first artist in the Gold Coast Music Hall Of Fame,” she said.
“It’s such an exciting time for the Gold Coast and for music in this country. There are so many amazing bands and artists coming through the Gold Coast. It really feels so special to be part of the artist community.”

The Gold Coast Music Hall Of Fame is yet to be established - it could be a plaque on the ground at Surfers Paradise, an art piece somewhere in the city, or a dedicated room.
Although undecided on what it will be and where, Gold Coast Music Awards director Samantha Morris said Shark would be inducted into it sometime in 2020.
“We are consulting with City of Gold Coast and our industry partners to determine what a hall of fame might look like for the Gold Coast but it’s sure to be a bit different,” Mrs Morris said.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said: “The Hall Of Fame honour is sure to become one of the most prestigious accolades musicians strive for throughout their career.”
About 400 people attended the Surfers Paradise beachfront awards last night which celebrated celebrate finalists and winners across nine categories.

One of them was rising star San Mei, who took home Breakout Artist Of The Year and the Song Of The Year gong for her popular indie rock number, Wonder.
Wolfmother keyboard player and acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Ian Peres won the new Musician Of The Year award, while Video Of The Year was snapped up by experimental dance and music artist YT Dingo for his music clip Shipwrecked.
Mrs Morris said: “The finalists are a true testament to the creative gold that continues to grow and emerge on the Gold Coast.”
Shark’s 2018 album Love Monster is estimated to be listened by over 1.5 million times by Spotify users every month. Her single Adore from her 2017 album Night Thinker has been played almost 50 million times on Spotify, with ‘I Said Hi’ over 32 million times in past 18 months.
She told the Bulletin she is working on her third album.
