A fast food giant is on a Gold Coast hiring spree as Covid-induced staff shortages threaten the economy, leaving stores closed and shelves bare.
McDonald’s is just one of many big retailers and essential services recruiting for workers specifically on the Glitter Strip.
It is trying to fill 400 full-time, part-time and casual roles across 38 restaurants on the Gold Coast.
A McDonald’s Australia spokeswoman said it was looking to employ people of all ages and experience levels across a variety of crew, management, barista and maintenance roles.
“McDonald’s is proud to offer employees a supportive working environment, outstanding training and development opportunities and the flexibility to suit all circumstances,” she said.
“We invest more than $40 million into training and development initiatives each year, offering award-winning certifications in the business, retail, food service and hospitality sectors.
“This is part of our commitment to helping our people build their skills and career opportunities both within McDonald’s and other industries.”
Supermarket giant Coles has 164 entry level jobs available across its Gold Coast stores and another 10 vacancies for bakers in southeast Queensland.
A Coles spokeswoman said applicants must have Australian working rights, be at least 15 years old and may require a Covid vaccine.
“You don’t need to have any experience, but if you’re enthusiastic and willing, have a great attitude and are a reliable person, you’ll make a great addition to our team,” she said.
For those with retail experience, Kmart is also hiring various department manager roles across stores in Broadbeach, Robina, Coomera, Helensvale, Southport and Elanora.
Previous management and customer service experience is a must for these roles, with annual salaries starting at $75,000.
As Covid cases explode across the state, jobseekers are being encouraged to look to the health sector for job security.
Gold Coast Health is currently seeking experienced staff for casual, temporary and permanent positions.
These include registered nurses, enrolled nurses, administration officers, cleaners, wards people, dock staff and food services workers.
Employees of Gold Coast Health are required to work across the Gold Coast on a variety of shifts.
