Endless pandemic? The worldwide struggle with vaccine effectiveness

Shelves have been stripped bare at some supermarkets across the Gold Coast as Covid cases explode across the state.

A customer at Woolworths Pacific Pines posted a photo to social media on Monday afternoon showing bare shelves in the toilet paper aisle whilst some essentials were sold out at a Mermaid supermarket.

“The panic patrol is at it again,” they captioned the photo.

A Woolworths spokesman clarified that it was experiencing delays with stock deliveries due to Covid.

“The pandemic has delivered many challenges over the past two years and will continue to do so as we move into this next phase,” he said.

“We’re currently experiencing delays with some of our stock deliveries to Gold Coast stores due to Covid-related impacts on our supply chain operations.

“We have stock available within our network and our teams and suppliers are doing all they can to replenish our stores as quickly as possible.

“We thank our customers for their patience and apologise for the inconvenience.”

The Bulletin understands there are shortages in toilet paper and long life milk, with a Mermaid Beach Woolworths out of both on Monday night.

An Aldi spokeswoman said there were currently no product restrictions in place and it was working ensure plenty of stock was available.

“We ask shoppers to resist any compulsion to purchase more than they normally would, and to shop with kindness and consideration,” she said.

“We also remind customers to shop safely by wearing a mask, following social distancing guidelines and remembering to check in via the QR codes placed throughout our stores.”

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said lockdowns won’t be back even as Covid-19 cases rise.

Politicians and retailers have previously pleaded with customers not to panic buy.

Queensland recorded 4249 new Covid-19 infections with 10 people in intensive care units as the Omicron variant rips across the state.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and chief health officer Dr John Gerrard provided an update on the coronavirus on Monday morning, saying 20,239 cases were active statewide.
