A Gold Coast MP has called on Queenslanders to funnel their $300 rego rebate cash into local businesses before Christmas.

Queensland Election: Everything you need to know

AN LNP MP has urged Gold Coasters to spend a $300 rego rebate promised by the party “in local businesses” before the holidays.

Bonney MP Sam O’Connor has revealed the LNP’s plan to give drivers $300 for every registered car could funnel $142.1 million into the Gold Coast economy before Christmas.

The plan is one of the party’s major promises if elected in Saturday’s election.

“Queensland motorists will be able to claim the money online in December and I would urge them to spend the cash in local businesses before Christmas and New Year,” Mr O’Connor said.

“If you own a registered vehicle, you’ll get the $300 Rego Rebate straight into your bank account before Christmas.”

The LNP is expected to announce its costings on Thursday, after weeks of questioning on just how they plan to fund the rebate plan.

LNP Gaven candidate Kirsten Jackson also backed the move during a press conference with LNP leader Deb Frecklington on Thursday.

“The LNP wants Queenslanders to use this cash to go out and support local business straight away,” she said.

“Local businesses need a boost to protect jobs and get them into next year and the $300 rebate stimulus payment will give our economy a Christmas kickstart.”
