DRUGS on Instagram are becoming more common and some of the Gold Coast’s influencers have already found the spotlight for the wrong reason.
Here are some of the Glitter Strip’s Insta-stars who have found themselves before the courts on drugs charges.
Garry James Turner
BODYBUILDER, model and science teacher Garry James Turner narrowly missed spending time in jail after he was caught supplying steroids.
Earlier this month he was sentenced to two-years prison with immediate release on parole after pleading guilty in the Brisbane Supreme Court for nine counts of supplying dangerous drugs, including testosterone and a growth hormone, over a six-month period in 2018.
Turner, who has had hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers of his bodybuilding photos, received $6000 for the steroids he supplied to clients.
Turner has more than 410,000 Instagram followers.
This week he posted a photo of himself walking shirtless along a Gold Coast beach.
Azzra Hughes
IN 2019 former Playboy model Azzra Hughes was caught multiple times with small amounts of drugs, including cocaine in her possession.
When she appeared in court in January this year she vowed to clean up her act and even spoke of having aspirations to become the next prime minister.
She was caught four times in 18 months for drug-related charges.
Hughes was fined in January $1000 and a two month driving ban.
She has never had a conviction recorded against her.
The former model, who has more than 7,000 followers on Instagram, has not been in trouble since appearing in court in January.
Hughes regularly posts model glamour shots on social media and describes herself as an adoption ambassador for the Animal Welfare League.
Hannah Sofia Louise Millott
GOLD Coast dancer Hannah Sofia Louise Millott was caught with the drug ice in her handbag when she was searched for shoplifting earrings at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre.
The 18-year-old had more than 90,000 Instagram followers and in June last year pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs and two counts of unauthorised dealing with shop goods.
Millott told police the three capsules of methamphetamine belonged to a friend.
She also took earrings from Lovisa and a “variety of items” from Victoria’s Secret.
She was fined $700.
Millott still regularly posts on Instagram, including videos of her dances. She has not caught the attention of police since the incident.
Jaxon Kade Tippet
MODEL and personal trainer Jaxon Kade Tippet fronted a court three times in less than three years after being caught with drugs.
The Instagramer last appeared in Southport Magistrates Court in March 2018 when he pleaded guilty to six counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of driving unlicensed and one count of failing to properly dispose of a syringe.
Tippet was caught with more than 250 steroid tablets, vials of testosterone and a syringe in his jocks.
Magistrate Donald MacKenzie fined him $4000 and slammed him for failing to be a good role model in the fitness industry.
“Particularly with young men and seeing they can have the body that you have and thinking they can have a body like you by using steroids,” he said.
Mr MacKenzie said Tippet could have bulked up in a legal way such as eating “honey and banana sandwiches”.
Tippet, who has almost 150,000 followers on Instagrams has moved away from drugs in recent years.
He still posts regularly on the social media platform, often spruiking different types of active wear.
