Gold Coast Development: Surfers Paradise supertower Ocean will be built in three stages

THE GOLD Coast’s newest supertower is about to start rising out of the ground, but new documents reveal how the skyscraper will be built and how long the work will take.

THE Gold Coast’s next supertower will be open by 2022

New documents filed with the Gold Coast City Council show the 77-storey Ocean tower in Surfers Paradise will be built in three stages.

The tower, put forward by billionaire Harry Triguboff, will be the city’s second-tallest building behind the Q1.

Stage 1 will include the first 34-levels, the basement and podium floors, which will include short-term accommodation units. Stage 2 will take the tower up to 51 levels and feature both short-term accommodation, plus long-term apartments.

The tower will take 3.5 years to complete.

PUBLIC ‘IS ENTITLED TO KNOW’ ABOUT DEVELOPMENTS

The third and final stage will complete the tower and include both unit levels and the roof plant.

It has been given a construction period of 3.5 years which, with construction expected to begin in coming months, would mean a completion date in late 2021.

Mr Triguboff began marketing the project last month.

Ocean is Harry Triguboff’s 19th Gold Coast project.

Its short-term accommodation will be a hotel marketed under the Meriton brand.

Ocean, which will top out at 252 metres, will accommodate more people than any building on the Gold Coast.

It is to have 262 apartments and 446 hotel suites and is being undertaken on a 3833sq m site at 84 The Esplanade.
