CONSTRUCTION of the Gold Coast’s next supertower is half done after more than two years of work.
Despite COVID, The Star’s giant Dorsett tower is still on track to open in early 2022 as the concrete is this week poured for level 24 of the 53-storey project.
Golden-glazed windows have also been installed on the hotel’s 13-storey facade. The final storey is due to be completed in August 2021 before the interior fit out.

Star Gold Coast chief operating officer Jessica Mellor said it would increase the number of units on the site from 650 to nearly 1000.
And there’s more on the way, with Star already talking up plans for its next supertower, spruiked to become one of the Coast’s tallest buildings.
“Apartment sales in the Dorsett hotel and apartments tower is at 91 per cent sold, with sales in the second proposed tower currently at 68 per cent sold,” Ms Mellor said.
“Pending market and competitor conditions, our second mixed-use tower – a $500m development, surging 63 storeys high – will feature 457 one, two, and three-bedroom apartments; 210 five-star hotel rooms; and an array of world-class amenities.”
The state government-approved masterplan includes four new towers of 63, 74, 54 and 52 storeys for 1794 apartments and 518 rooms.
Construction of the Dorsett began in late 2018 and there are around 250 people on-site every day.
The mixed-use tower will include both a 313-room hotel in its first 20 floors and the Star Residences complex in its top 33 levels. Its interior has been designed by US-based hospitality firm Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA).
Atlanta-based HBA Partner Jacques Coetzee said the company had been working on the interior design since late 2017.

“Our brief was to create a fresh, sophisticated, and relaxing overall design aesthetic, which would not compete but blend perfectly with the beautiful coastline views of Broadbeach Island – from the lush vegetation of the hinterland to the evocative ocean waves,” he said.
“We have included soft nods to botanicals through custom guestroom carpet designs and have subtle reference to lapping ocean waves in the lobby design, artwork, and public area carpets to establish a true sense of place.
“A key feature will be a stunning custom chandelier installation in the main lobby, featuring kinetic lighting along with reflective materials above to enhance the concept of lapping waves and shimmering light over ocean waves.”
