MORE than 1800 jobs are up for offer on the Gold Coast’s newest development — a $400 million hotel and residential tower. With work set to begin soon, here’s how you can get a job on the lucrative project.

CONSTRUCTION will soon begin on the Gold Coast’s newest development — a $400 million, 53-storey hotel and residential tower.

The high-rise, known as The Star residences, will become built at Broadbeach and will be hope to Australia’s first Dorsett Hotel.

The 4.5 star hotel will be developed by the Destination Gold Coast Consortium — a joint venture between The Star Entertainment Group and its Hong Kong-based partners, Far East Consortium and Chow Tai Fook Enterprises.

A total of 316 hotel rooms will be created across the tower’s lower levels, while a further 423, one and two bedroom residential apartments will be built across its upper floors.

And more than 1800 jobs will be created during construction, which will begin this year and will run until 2022.

Star Entertainment Group Managing Director Queensland Geoff Hogg said the tower would create a large-scale, premium development that reinforces The Star’s confidence in the tourism outlook for South East Queensland.

Construction will soon begin on the 53-storey tower.

“This new hotel and apartment offering brings us closer to realising our vision of becoming Australia’s leading integrated resort company, and we’re proud of the fact we will now have three hotels on Broadbeach Island, Mr Hogg said.

“The addition of an international brand such as The Dorsett also brings with it awareness in the global market, and especially Asia, where the wealthy middle-class demographic continues to expand rapidly.

The tower will contain Australia’s first Dorsett Hotel.

“They are looking for authentic experiences further from home, and are wanting to travel.

“When combined with our climate, natural beauty, abundant fresh produce and safe environment, it makes the Gold Coast a truly compelling tourism destination.”

Features of the tower are new restaurants, bars, resort facilities, carparking and shops, and an exclusive recreation deck for apartment occupants on Level 20.

Up to four new towers will be built at the casino site over the next decade.

The Star today announced Hutchinson Builders as the contractor of the project.

Hutchinson boss Greg Quinn, said he was looking forward to working on the project.

“We’re excited to bring our expertise, local knowledge and project partners to deliver this landmark development in partnership with The Star Entertainment Group,” he said.

“Hutchies has carved out a niche for delivering luxury developments in live operating environments like this across Australia, and this new tower at The Star Gold Coast solidifies the current development confidence and growth across the Gold Coast region.”

Hutchisons confirmed that most new jobs would be sourced from local contractors, with around 1600 on top of its own 200-strong staff.
