A DEVELOPER wants to transform a suburban Palm Beach street into the city’s newest mid-rise tower.
Grassy Knoll Projects has put forward plans for an eight-storey tower on a 2405 sqm site on Mawarra Street.

The developer, which owns the land, wants to create a large residential building which would be home to 80 units.
In documents provided to councillors, it argues the project is a good fit for the area.
“The proposed development demonstrates a modern, subtropical design which blends well with the local character of Palm Beach,” it said.

But area councillor Daphne McDonald said she holds concerns about the project and its proposed density.
“This has just come into council and my major concern is that it is three times the density ordinarily allowed,” she said.
“This is one of the things I am working against which is impact on Palm Beach and the Coast as a whole.
“When you are looking at a development going to two or three times the density allowed under the town plan, it impacts on the narrow streets nearby, given it is close to the high-density Sunland site and a nearby school.
“This could be a recipe for disaster.”
It will be considered by council later this year.
