A DEVELOPER has unveiled plans for a beachfront tower next to one of the Gold Coast’s most popular surf lifesaving clubs.

The super-thin 31-storey tower will neighbour Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club at the intersection of Garfield Terrace and Thornton Street, overlooking the southern end of Surfers Paradise beach.

It would have just 50 apartments spread across its floors and be home to 155 people.

LUXURY SKYHOME TOWER SET TO RISE

The tower would be topped out with a five-bedroom penthouse spread across the top three levels, including a rooftop terrace with its own pool.

City planning boss Cr Cameron Caldwell welcomed the project, which he said would continue the revitalisation in southern Surfers Paradise which has been led by the $1 billion Jewel development.

“There are a lot of prestige boutique apartments in the area and this project is well located.

“Council welcomes this project and we are seeing continued renewal of the precinct between central Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach.

“A thorough assessment will be undertaken.”

It would tower 104m above Surfers Paradise beach and would have a gym and infinity pool at the base of the podium overlooking the water as well as an elevated lobby.

Developer PM No. 1 filed the development application with council earlier this week.

If approved, it will replace a three-storey building which currently sits on the site, just 240m away from the nearest light rail station.

SUPERTOWER SPIRIT TO CREATE 1000 JOBS

The tower was designed by prominent southeast firm Blight Rayner which worked on ASF’s $3 billion integrated resort proposal at The Spit and Sunland’s $200 million The Lanes shopping centre at Clear Island Waters.

It would feature just 66 carparking spaces which would be operated by an ‘automatic valet parking’ system — cars would drive into a car lift accessible from Garfield Terrace and the driver would exit before the car is taken to the lower level by a lift and parked via turntable and shuttles.

A car would be stored inside the basement within 86 seconds of the driver exiting the vehicle, according to documents filed with the council.
