AN Elanora man accused of stabbing his friend with scissors during an argument over drugs has been granted bail.

Paul Lawrence Weir appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday facing one charge of unlawfully wounding.

It is alleged the 54-year-old stabbed the Elanora woman during an argument about drugs in an Elanora home about 2am on Thursday.

Police allege the woman was left with a puncture wound.

Duty lawyer Sarah Jowitt said Weir was the carer for his mother, who is in hospital.

She said Weir was agreeable to random drug and alcohol testing.

When Magistrate Pam Dowse questioned whether that was wise given the argument was over drugs Ms Jowitt said Weir had instructed her he was willing to be tested.

Magistrate Dowse granted Weir bail on the conditions he reside in his Elanora home, report to police three times a week, had no contact with the alleged victim and submit to random drug testing.

The matter was adjourned to April 7.

Bus driver allegedly assaulted over banana

Wednesday, February 24: Police have released images of a man they believe punched a Gold Coast bus driver in the face when he was warned about eating a banana.

The bus was parked at the Broadbeach South Light Rail Station about 8.40am on January 31 when the 58-year-old driver spoke to the man about eating food on board, Queensland Police stated.

It’s alleged the passenger punched the male driver once in the face in response, causing swelling, bruising to an eye, bleeding from the nose and a laceration.

Broadbeach police investigating the alleged assault have asked anyone who recognises the man to contact officers.

The man is described as caucasian, about 175cm tall with a slim build and very short hair. He has tattoos on his right forearm and calf.
