You’re never too young to learn the business ropes as 14-year-old Currumbin resident Jonah Angel is proving.

The self-funded entrepreneur has seen his business, GC Snow Cones, boom since opening in December 2022.

It isn’t Jonah’s first job — he started mowing lawns, but made the switch to snow cones due to the heat.

“I originally looked at fairy floss machines and doing them at parties, but I instead went for snow cones because they’re healthier,” he said.

“And they’re nice and cool, which is especially good on the Gold Coast.”

The Year 8 All Saints Anglican School student has been catering events, including birthday parties and sporting meets.

“To start the business I took out a loan of $1200 and I paid it back in the first week,” Jonah said.

“Generally now I can earn $100 an hour.”

While many teenagers would be motivated by the chance to earn extra pocket money, Jonah is more future focused.

“I’m quite interested in the business side of things and learning more about how money works,” he said.

“I’m kept busy (balancing the business and school) but I can manage it.

“I haven’t heard of anyone else at school doing this.

“I know a lot of kids are getting jobs at cafes, but I wanted to do my own thing.”
