The Gold Coast is less than a month away from voting in the state election and candidates are out and about sharing what they’ll do to win your vote.
Premier Steven Miles headed to Government House in Brisbane on Monday October 1, kicking off 26 days of campaigning across Queensland.

TALLEBUDGERA/TALLEBUDGERA VALLEY
PROMISE: New carpark for Tallebudgera State School
COST: $2 million
PARTY: LNP, Currumbin
The LNP has promised to fix congestion at a southern Gold Coast school carpark with a $2 million investment they say is “critical”.
It will invest $2 million into a new carpark at Tallebudgera State School if elected in October.
LNP Member for Currumbin Laura Gerber said the school had been suffering a critical parking shortage for years.
CURRUMBIN
PROMISE: Major upgrades for Currumbin Eagles Rugby League Football Club
COST: $800,000
PARTY: LNP, Currumbin
The LNP has promised a Currumbin rugby league club a major upgrade to improve facilities which they say was “much-needed”.
The Liberal National Party announced they would be investing $800,000 into a major upgrade to the Currumbin Eagles Rugby League Football Club if they were to be elected in October.
Eagles president Clint Isemonger said the club currently did not have “fit for purpose change rooms” for the women and girl players.
TUGUN
PROMISE: Major upgrades for Tugun Seahawks Rugby League Football Club
COST: $450,000
PARTY: LNP, Currumbin
The LNP promised they would spend $450,000 on a major upgrade to the Tugun Seahawks Rugby League Football Club to improve facilities.
Laura Gerber said a Crisafulli LNP Government would fund the construction of a new deck at the clubhouse as well as other “much-needed upgrades” if they were to be elected in October.
Tugun Seahawks president David Mason said the upgrades would help the club “continue to build a stronger, more inclusive and vibrant club”.
ELANORA
PROMISE: Business case for STEM centre of excellence at Elanora HIGH
COST: $500,000
PARTY: LNP, Currumbin
A $500,000 business case for a science and technology education centre at a southern Gold Coast School will be funded if the LNP win on October 26.
Incumbent Currumbin MP Laura Gerber announced the funding commitment for Elanora High School on Thursday.
The “state-of-the-art” STEM centre of excellence would provided science, technology engineering and math facilities for students from years 7 to 12.
BURLEIGH HEADS
PROMISE: To build a koala bridge
COST: $2.5 million
PARTY: LNP, Burleigh
The party committed to building the wildlife crossing between Burleigh Ridge Park and Burleigh Heads National Park amid concern over the number of koalas being hit by vehicles.
LNP Candidate for Burleigh Hermann Vorster said the project was an “urgent priority” and criticised the Labor government’s record on koala protection.
PIMPAMA
PROMISE: Support for non-for-profit ESuarve
COST: $4 million
PARTY: Labor, Coomera
Premier Steven Miles has promised that if re-elected Labor will invest $4 million into a Gold Coast not-for-profit hailed by police for its success in steering troubled youth away from crime. At a visit to ESuarve, Mr Miles said that if re-elected in October, his government would provide $4 million towards the group, which provides training for its students and helps them find employment.
SOUTHPORT
PROMISE: Funding early intervention schools
COST: $40 million
PARTY: LNP, Southport
David Crisafulli has announced the LNP will spend $40m on four schools designed to stop troubled young people from getting involved in crime and ‘running off the rails’.
Under the plan the Men of Business Academy at Southport, which currently caters for 220 students in Years 11 and 12, would expand to also cover Years 7 to 10 and cater for up to 450 students. Three further schools would be funded across Queensland, with an overall capacity for 900 students.
PALM BEACH
PROMISE: Upgrades to Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Club
COST: $420,0000
PARTY: LNP, Burleigh
More than $420,000 has been committed to upgrading one of the southern Gold Coast’s biggest surf clubs.
The LNP made the announcement at Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Club on Tuesday morning, just an hour after incumbent Premier Steven Miles visited Government House and triggered the election.
If elected on October 26, the LNP will put $420,000 towards five key projects, including revamping its dormitories, gym, kitchen and change rooms, as well as improving disability access to the clubhouse, which sits on Seventh Ave.
NERANG
PROMISE: Nerang Roosters upgrade
COST: $900,000
PARTY: Labor, Gaven
More than $900,000 will be given to the Nerang Roosters to upragde their clubhouse and facilities if Labor is re-elected.
PACIFIC PINES
PROMISE: Pacific Pines Netball Club
COST: $200,000
PARTY: Labor, Gaven
Gaven MP Meaghan Scanlon has promised to give the Pacific Pines Netball Club $200,000 to expand and upgrade its courts.
CARRARA
PROMISE: Upgraded changing rooms at Magic United FC
COST: $480,000
PARTY: LNP, Gaven
LNP candidate Bianca Stone and Opposition sports spokesman Tim Mander announced a $480,000 commitment to building new women’s change rooms for the Magic United Football Club at Carrara.
It trumps the $320,000 Labor committed to the project earlier this year.
