It took at least four crews nearly three hours to put out the fire at Piggabeen, no one was injured in the blaze despite the significant “radiant heat” it caused.

According to Fire and Rescue NSW Station 468 Tweed Heads, at about 2.30am firefighters on 468 Alpha responded to triple-0 call to a house fire.

“En route to the incident a large glow could be seen,” explained a social media post about the incident.

“On arrival 468 Alpha had to go through a narrow gate to access a steep driveway to access the property where a large two-storey house was found to be fully involved in fire.

“Fortunately the residents were out of the house on our arrival. Crews got to work with hose lines at the side of the property, the radiant heat in this area was significant.

“The area isn’t serviced by fire hydrants and the water carried on our appliance was soon used so two large rainwater tanks were accessed with portable pumps to continue attacking the fire.”
