Driver caught five times over limit in shocking New Year’s Day drink driving stats
Police have revealed shocking statistics which reveal the five highest drink driving readings in Queensland on New Year’s Day all took place on the Gold Coast - including one driver almost five times over the limit.

A GOLD Coast driver has tested almost five times the legal limit as close to 200 Queensland drivers were charged with drink driving on New Year’s Day.
The Broadbeach Waters driver was caught with a reading of 0.225%, well above the legal blood alcohol limit of 0.05%.
Another four were caught with incredibly high readings including 0.203% at Ashmore, 0.202% at Ormeau, 0.197% at Southport and 0.152% at Ashmore.

171 drivers were charged with drink driving from a total 12,964 random breath tests.
Another 94 drivers returned positive roadside drug tests around the state.
20 were injured in 14 traffic crashes with police detected 2500 speeding motorists, including one driver travelling at 142km/h in an 80km zone in Dundas.
Almost 700 traffic infringement notices were issues yesterday, with 23 seatbelt offences recorded and 16 drivers fined for using their mobile phones.
