Pro-Palestine activists have launched a protest on a Gold Coast motorway footbridge, hanging a banner and flying flags above busy public holiday traffic and forcing police to intervene.
The handful of protesters were filmed by passing motorists as they were set up on the M1 pedestrian overpass near Entertainment Road, Oxenford about 10.30am on Monday.
Black banners had been hung on both sides of the bridge with “stop the genocide” and “free Palestine” written in large orange font.
A group of three protesters could be seen on the eastern side of the bridge waving the Palestinian flag. On the opposite end of the bridge two police officers are speaking with another person holding a flag.
The protest comes on the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel which triggered the conflict in Gaza.
Thousands have taken to the streets around the world in similar pro-Palestinian action.
