Disgusting act at park shocks

A park in the heart of a tourist hot spot has been trashed with piles of overflowing rubbish and empty alcohol bottles.

Resident Jane Bansgrove took to social media on Monday morning to slam those responsible for the mess left behind at Cascade Gardens in Surfers Paradise.

She captured video showing rubbish piled high next to bins, but also scattered throughout the park.

“Whoever organised this party at a public park and trashed it - Shame on you,” Ms Bansgrove said.

“You and your mates need to be educated and fined.

“The council workers who maintain this everyday would be so disappointed. They will have to spend so much time cleaning it for other people to enjoy again.

“Keep Australia beautiful.”

She suggested the culprits be put on “scab duty” as punishment, which is a slang phrase meaning litter clean-up duties.

A Gold Coast City Council spokeswoman said crews were on site Monday morning to clean the mess.

“We ask people to clean up after themselves when using our parks and public spaces,” she said.

Those caught littering can face a $309 fine for individuals or $1548 for corporations.
