Police swarmed a Southport apartment complex overnight after a resident reported seeing a man jumping a fence into their yard armed with an axe.

Police swarmed a Southport apartment complex overnight after a resident reported seeing a man jumping a fence into their yard armed with an axe.

Officers were called to the disturbance on High St around 7.40pm to search for the man.

Police said they eventually found him, but he was not in possession of the axe.

A gel blaster was found at the location.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Residents in the area took to social media to report they had seen “cops everywhere” and the PolAir helicopter “circling” for some time.
