Gold Coast residents are being urged to have their say on a project which will transform the city’s largest open space into a parkland with more than 10 sporting fields, a 50,000 capacity concert space and more.
The plans would see 257 hectares of Robina parklands transformed to include sports fields, a concert area, a discovery centre, walking trails and a wildlife corridor.
“The project is a direct response to our city’s significant growth and is vital for us to continue to offer high quality parks, facilities and environmental outcomes for generations to come,” Mr Tate said.
Construction for Greenheart Stage 1 began in May 2023 and was expected to finish in early 2025.
Mr Tate asked Gold Coast residents to share their ideas to “create the remainder of what will be the city’s premier parklands”.
“It’s an ambitious project. The space is nearly the same size of Central Park in New York … This is a generational chance to add value to our city.”
Mr Tate added he wanted more eucalyptus trees so he could “watch the koalas having a good sleep so I can lay down and have a sleep myself”.
The sports precinct will include 11 sporting fields, two ovals, six multipurpose hard courts, amenities and change rooms.
The concert area will host up to 50,000 people for festivals, community events and markets.
The discovery hub will include educational facilities for school excursions, a cafe and two ovals.
The community park will feature barbecues, picnic facilities, playground, a multipurpose hard court, bike trails and a “kickabout” space.
There will also be a Big and Little Woody Hills which will be an Indigenous cultural heritage area with walking trails and signage to promote natural and cultural heritage.
The five-minute survey will close on July 1 at gchaveyoursay.com.au/greenheart.
