Two restaurants have shut their doors within months of opening in a new shopping centre after their leases were terminated due to alleged “breaches”.
Popular burger and chicken joints Pattysmiths and Southern Seoul Beer and Chicken opened at adjacent sites in Southport’s Queen Street Village shopping centre in November.
Both sites have sat empty for weeks and the locks have been changed.
A notice in the window of the empty restaurants stated the lease was terminated due to alleged “failure” to remedy breaches set out in another notice dated February 13.
A spokesman for the centre’s landlord, Chauvel Capital, confirmed the restaurants were closed and would be replaced with other offerings.
“Queen Street Village officially opened in mid-October 2022 with IGA Jones & CO, Dendy Cinemas, Hanaromart, EMF Fitness, GYG, Oporto and 20 other tenancies,” he said.
“It is unfortunate that two tenancies have been unable to continue trading, having completed their fitouts and open in late November 2022.
“We are currently seeking other operators for these tenancies.”
The Pattysmiths and Southern Seoul Beer and Chicken brands are both run by the same Melbourne-based franchisor, Concept Eight.
The franchisor was contacted for comment, but did not provide a response by deadline.
There are five Pattysmiths restaurants on the Gold Coast, including in Merrimac, Miami, Palm Beach, Biggera Waters and Upper Coomera.
