Surfers Paradise restaurant is demolished

A popular Gold Coast restaurant, known for its mouth-watering tacos and tequila bar, has closed without explanation after four years in business.

A post on the La Diosa Mexicana Facebook page on Thursday morning confirmed the shock news.

“La Diosa Mexicana has closed its doors,” it read.

“We would like to thank all of our customers for the support they have given us. Especially the locals.”

The Bulletin reached out to owner Danny Azzi for comment.

Social media users expressed their disbelief over the closure on Facebook.

“We went last night OMG,” one woman wrote.

“Omg that was the best taco deal on the Gold Coast,” another added.

La Diosa Mexicana opened in Surfers Paradise in February 2019.

At the time, Mr Azzi said his background in Arabic and Mediterranean cooking influenced the recipes on the menu.

“My background is Middle Eastern, Moroccan and Greek, and this isn’t too different from that — it’s all fresh food put together on the spot,” he said in 2019.

“You’ve got your regular nachos, burritos, quesadillas and tacos, but a bit more modern.

“We’re trying to keep it to Australian standard Mexican but modern food, things an everyday Australian knows what it is, but with Mexican flavour.”

Mr Azzi was the previous owner of Gringo Loco on the Esplanade.
