Police blitz on drivers in northern Gold Coast

A GOLD Coast man who claims he was sleeping in his car on the side of the road has been banned from driving for six months.

Richard Messines Reedy was due to get his driver’s license back on Wednesday after being disqualified for losing his demerit points.

Instead he will now have to wait another six months after pleading guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday to driving without a licence.

Reedy was found in a car by police at Central Park Ave, Ashmore on August 4.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Nicole Conditsis said police saw the vehicle on the side of the road and found keys in its ignition when they approached it.

She said police were told by Reedy he was living in his car and was about to drive to work.

Reedy disputed the claim and said he often sleeps in his car and he was not going to drive the vehicle.

Reedy said it was 8C the morning he was found and the keys were in the ignition so he could warm himself up.

Despite not agreeing he was driving the car, Reedy pleaded guilty and accepted the penalty.

Magistrate Pamela Dowse said because Reedy was without a licence at the time, his registration would have alerted the police officers.

She warned him not to risk the same issue happening in the future.

Reedy was disqualified from driving for six months.
