Car goes up in flames at Parkwood on Gold Coast

A GUNSHOT victim rushed into a grocery store with blood pouring from his leg and pleaded with staff to call police, a worker has revealed.

Four people were arrested in a car at Surfers Paradise on Friday after a 27-year-old Holland Park man suffered a suspected gunshot wound to the leg at a unit in the Southport Central Tower.

Two men and two women were arrested in a car at Acacia Ave, Surfers Paradise about 2pm.

Police allege the victim was lured to the high-rise by two men – one of whom was known to him – to negotiate the return of a hired luxury Mercedes that had been stolen from him the previous night.

Police allege an altercation broke out inside the unit resulting in the Holland Park man sustaining a gunshot wound to his upper right leg.

Three men and a woman fled the scene in the stolen Mercedes and the 27-year-old walked wounded to a local store looking for help, police allege.

Police swarmed Qmart Asian Grocery on Lewis St, Southport about 12.30pm on Friday after the man sought help from staff.

Businesses near the unit complex were told to lock their doors by police unit it was deemed safe.

One worker, who did not want to be named, said the man rushed in telling them to call police.

“We don’t know what happened to him but he had lots of blood coming out of his leg,” the worker said.

“We called police straight away and waited outside the store until they came.”

The man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Crime scenes were declared on Friday at Surfers Paradise and at the Southport Central Tower.

Investigations are ongoing.

Man in hospital after assault near casino

Police are investigating after a 22-year-old man was assaulted at Broadbeach Waters overnight.

Paramedics were called to Casino Dr – in the vicinity of the casino – just after 9.30pm and treated the man.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with head injuries.

Police say the man had bruising to his mouth and nose.

Police have spoken with another 22-year-old man about the incident but no formal complaint has been made.

The pair was not known to each other.

Investigations are ongoing.

Vehicle rolls, lanes closed on Coast highway

A two-vehicle collision involving a rollover has forced the closure of multiple lanes on a major Gold Coast road.

The incident took place just before 10.30am Friday at the corner of Gold Coast Hwy and Toolona St at Tugun.

Two lanes were closed to traffic and delays experienced throughout the area as emergency crews tended to a patient.

The person was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.

‘Sounded like gun shots’: Fire destroys car on Coast

A GOLD Coast resident says she heard two loud noises “that sounded like gun shots” before a car was “blown up” on a suburban street.

Onlookers were left stunned as flames engulfed a hatchback vehicle at Driftwood Pl, Parkwood, about noon Thursday.

The blaze sent black smoke billowing into the sky before firefighters brought it under control about 12.30pm.

Paramedics attended the scene but weren’t required.

Police are investigating the incident.
