A random act of kindness from a complete stranger changed the life of a Southport woman overnight.
Merrimac’s Wally Noppert decided to give away his 2000 Holden Calais after he upgraded to a BMW.
He offered the car on a Gold Coast community Facebook group.
“The post absolutely blew up and I received so many messages in my inbox from a wide range of candidates,” he said.
He described the process of narrowing down the field of candidates from four, to two and eventually one as an “emotional rollercoaster”.
Mr Noppert, a single dad, decided to give the car to Southport single mum Natasha Degier.
Ms Degier was only able to see her daughter a few times a week because she didn’t have a car.
“The day I handed the keys over was a really special moment,” Mr Noppert said.
“Not only because Tash and I embraced in that moment, but for me, the most special moment was when her daughter came and gave me a hug.
“It was the sweetest, warmest and biggest hug I could have received from anyone.”
Ms Degier said the new set of wheels had changed her life and restored her faith in the kindness of strangers.
“When Wal told me, I genuinely broke down in tears,” she said.
“I couldn’t believe he chose me out of everyone that messaged him and contacted him.
“Wal is an awesome, lovely person.”
