One of the jockeys dumped in the water by her horse during Tuesday’s Magic Millions beach race mayhem says the “extremely high tide” had “spooked” the animal.
About 8.40am, two horses in the involved in the beach race at Surfers Paradise tossed their jockeys and ran loose in suburban streets before they galloped on to the highway.
In an interview with Sunrise on Tuesday morning, Jockey Tegan Harrison said she believed the horse was “spooked” due to the “extremely high tide”.
“Towards the end of the race we went into the water and just had a little stumble, and from there obviously Julio went on a little adventure,” Harrison told Sunrise.
“Heading over to see if he could find the big race on Saturday and find the better prize money.”
She said the horse was doing well after the wild, impromptu journey.
“He pretty much hasn’t missed a beat, he’s happy in his paddock picking his grass,” Harrison said.
“He’s been up here all morning loving the camera. I think he’s wondering when he gets back on the big screens again, he thinks he’s a movie star. He’s happy.”
A Magic Millions spokeswoman said the two horses involved were unharmed and had been checked over by vets.
