They have confirmed the search remains ongoing.

In the bizarre video, the woman can be seen holding a pram of alleged stolen items covered with a blanket while being confronted by a staff member outside the Ashmore store.

When the worker tried to take control of the pram, the woman yelled: “Let my baby go”.

In May, police confirmed they were looking to speak to the woman.

But more than two months after the alleged incident, they told the Bulletin the investigation remained ongoing and no arrests had been made.

Supercheap worker, star of viral vid snapped up by competitor - May 13

A Gold Coast Supercheap Auto worker stood down after he was seen confronting an alleged shoplifter with a pram in a video which went viral has now resigned from the business.

But he’s already been hired by Autobarn Burleigh Heads.

Supercheap Auto told the Bulletin “the team member involved in the incident has decided to leave the business”.

“We are continuing to offer support for the team member,” a spokesperson said.

In the bizarre video, a woman can be seen clutching a pram covered with a blanket while screaming “don’t take my baby” outside Supercheap Auto at Ashmore.

When the worker tries to take control of the pram, the woman can be heard yelling: “Let my baby go”.

She then removes the blanket from the pram and boxes of items fall to the ground.

The worker directed another person to “ring the cops”.

Police officers have been investigating the theft of two brake rotors, a spokeswoman said.

Supercheap Auto said it had since “completed a comprehensive review” of the incident.

“Following the review, we have reminded all team members about the importance of the company’s policies and standards on interacting with customers,” the spokesperson said.

“These policies and standards, which prohibit confronting suspected shoplifters and physical contact with customers, are designed to protect our team members and customers.

“We have extensive video surveillance in our stores and suspected cases of shoplifting are referred to the police with footage of the alleged offenders.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of our team members and customers is our highest priority and we are committed to maintaining a safe working and shopping environment.”

Supercheap Auto said the former worker “will be paid full employee entitlements”.

“We recognise the public interest in this matter but health and safety is paramount and our standards on health and safety are not just words on a page,” the spokesperson said.

“They are central to the way we operate our business.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

The man’s actions were backed by Bulletin readers, who leapt to his defence on social media.

Autobarn Burleigh Heads owner Michael Farrar previously told the Bulletin the worker was the type of employee he was looking for.

On Friday, Mr Farrar confirmed the former Supercheap worker was his newest staff member.

He said the worker was a “pretty private” fellow, who was “pretty upset” after his “life got turned upside down in one fell swoop”.

“He didn’t like how it all went down, but it’ll be all good from now on. He starts next week, next Tuesday,” Mr Farrar said.

As a franchisee, Mr Farrar is able to treat incidents like shoplifting at his store on a case-by-case basis.

Job offers pour in for man stood down after viral video

May 8: A retail worker who was stood down after a video of his exchange with a screaming woman went viral has been offered a series of new jobs.

Several Gold Coast businesses have reached out to the unnamed man to offer him employment.

The bizarre clip of a woman clutching a pram while screaming “don’t take my baby” outside the Ashmore Supercheap Auto store racked up thousands of views online last week.

The man was seen in the video confronting a woman with a pram covered in a blanket.

When he tried to take control of the pram, the woman was heard yelling: “Let my baby go”.

She then removed the blanket from the pram and boxes of items fell to the ground.

The staff member was seen directing another person to “ring the cops”.

It is understood police are not investigating the incident.

On Friday, the Bulletin revealed the worker had been stood down while a review into the incident was under way.

This was met with a flood of support from outraged Bulletin readers, including a job offer from Autobarn Burleigh Heads owner Michael Farrar.

Mr Farrar said the man in the video was the type of employee he was looking for.

“His actions showed to me that he is a loyal person and someone we would want on our team,” he said.

The Burleigh Heads store has lost an estimated $15,000 worth of stolen items over the past two years.

“We’ve never had anything returned or any compensation for that,” Mr Farrar said.

“If the guys on the ground aren’t diligent, it ends up being quite substantial losses for the business.”
