Gold Coast car thief Maddison Brown faces court after drugs found secreted ’between bum cheeks’ at Brisbane watchhouse

A young man busted with illicit items “protruding from his backside” has now pleaded guilty to a raft of fresh charges, including car theft.

A man who sped off from police in a stolen car was packing more than just his belongings while being held in custody.

Police found two bags of drugs between the “bum cheeks” of Maddison Barry Brown when they searched him in the Brisbane City watchhouse last year, Southport Magistrates Court was told.

Brown was sentenced to 12 months’ jail after pleading guilty to five charges including possession of dangerous drugs, evasion and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

This will run concurrently with a sentence the 26-year-old received in the Beenleigh District Court on July 28 for other matters.

In August last year, police spotted the Holland Park man driving a car that had been stolen from a Molendinar residence the month before, the court was told.

He sped off when police activated lights and sirens, narrowly missing the police car.

Brown was last seen speeding south towards Broadbeach and was disqualified from driving at the time.

On August 30 last year, Brown was in custody in the Brisbane City watch house for an unrelated matter when he was searched by police.

The searching officers observed items “protruding from his backside” and the defendant removed two small bags containing a white powder.

Analysis later confirmed the presence of 1.134 grams of cocaine in the powder, which he said was given to him by another person in custody.

Brown admitted to police he secreted the bags of drugs “between his bum cheeks” and planned to sell them later, the court was told.

Magistrate Ron Kilner sentenced Brown to 12 months jail, to run concurrently with his previous sentence.

He will be eligible for parole on January 28, 2023.

He was disqualified from driving for two years.
