The biggest house sales of 2020

ENTERTAINMENT entrepreneurs Billy and Jackie Cross are on the move after riding a hot market for top-shelf homes to achieve a $12.5 million sale of their riverfront Broadbeach Waters mansion.

The sale of the home, at 297-299 Monaco St, to an undisclosed buyer matches a record for the suburb set last year by another riverfront mansion, Villa Cantorocco.

The Crosses put their home on the market in September after committing to a $6 million-plus penthouse in yet-to-be-built Main Beach tower White.

They spent seven years, up to 2009, in the penthouse of the beachfront suburb’s Pintari tower, an experience Mr Cross has termed “really amazing”.

Kollosche agency principal Michael Kollosche said the sale of the Cross home at Broadbeach Waters further reduced the options for buyers shopping at the premium end of the Gold Coast market.

“The supply level for these estate-type homes is getting tighter and tighter,” he said.

“The Cross property drew very strong inquiry and quite a few offers, so there are unsatisfied buyers out there.”

The new owner is buying a 1560sqm mansion with a gymnasium, steam and massage rooms, 2000-bottle wine cellar, outdoor teppanyaki kitchen, five-car garage, and tennis court.

The buyer also will inherit a mancave with bar, wine fridges, and seven TV sets.

Paradise Centre: 40 years since Surfers Paradise shopping centre opened

Mr Cross has described it as one of the best mancaves on the Gold Coast – ‘You can watch the races, footy and AFL at the same time’.

He yesterday said he and Jackie would rent either a home or an apartment until White was completed later next year.

“There’s not much to choose from just now.

“We’d look at a penthouse at Main Beach – the suburb’s our preference.”

The $12.5 million sale of Villa Cantarocco, at 249 Monaco St, was made in August to a company associated with Malcolm Watkins, a founding director of finance and mortgage broking group AFG.

Last month property consultant Jonathan Gross and wife Roberto sold 135 Monaco St for $8.5 million to childcare-industry figure Bruce Coulson, who earlier sold the family’s Isle of Capri home for $27 million.
