IT’S hard work looking this good - even when you already look pretty good.
While many of the biggest stars in television are genetically blessed, it still takes a team of stylists to carry out painstaking preparation to get them red-carpet ready.
A galaxy of Australia’s biggest small screen stars will arrive on the Gold Coast today for TV Week’s 61st Logies Awards on Sunday night, with most coming with backup to make them look really, really good.
Nine Network style manager Alex Wilson has spent the past four months planning and preparing 20 celebritiess – ranging from Kelly Rowland and Brooke Boney to Deborah Knight and Georgie Gardner – for the one-night star-studded event.
AUSSIE TV STARS HOPE TO KEEP TV WEEK LOGIES ON THE GOLD COAST FOR GOOD
“I start thinking about it in February. As soon as the Oscars and the Met Gala have happened, I start picking up inspiration,” she said.
“April is really when we start to get the ball rolling. We need to pick the right designer for the right talent and it often takes time to make sure the correct look is established.”
The Nine style team of seven arrive on the Gold Coast today, each bringing with them four suitcases. They spent all of yesterday going through a checklist of essential items to be brought here.
She would not give anything away about what she had styled her “talent’’ with, but did say there were some unusual fashion trends tipped to be showcased on the carpet.
“Metallics and feathers, like ostrich features, are exciting new trends,” she said.
“We have deep-V necklines and a few longer sleeves which might be a bit controversial for the Gold Coast.
“I think people can definitely get a bit more glitzy and glamorous. People aren’t so worried about the weather and are a bit more experimental with how they are dressing.”
Nine News Queensland presenter Wendy Kingston will wear something slightly “controversial” by Brisbane designer Lydia James.

“The designer specialises in couture, hand-embellished gowns. It’s the opposite (of what she was photographed in) ... white, lot of lace, long sleeve and backless,” Ms Kingston said.
“The Logies are television’s biggest night and everyone wants to get dressed up. We love a bit of sparkle on the Gold Coast.
“The location is very beautiful and it’s a lot warmer than Melbourne so you can be a bit more creative with gowns.’’
Gold Coast model Taylah Cannon, selected to present trophies at the awards, is also thrilled just to be invited: “I couldn’t believe it when they asked me. I was like ‘Did I just read this?’.
Ms Cannon, the reigning Miss World Australia, said she was a mix of nerves and excitement: “I’ve watched them on TV my whole life so this is a bit surreal.”
WILL KARL STEFANOVIC BE AT THE GOLD COAST LOGIE AWARDS AT THE STAR?
The team of seven Nine stylists will spend all of tomorrow steaming the dozens of gowns – including designer labels like Rebecca Vallance, Cassandra Renee Couture, Diane Lewis Couture and Cushnie – before backing up again early on Sunday in preparation for hair and makeup, which starts at noon.
“The busiest time of the day is 3pm when everyone needs to get dressed at the same time,” Ms Wilson said.
“At 4pm, we go on to the carpet. I actually go out on to the carpet to make sure their gowns look their absolute best.
“It’s (called) professional fluffing. We need to make sure the (dress) trains are looking like they should and not caught under any heels.’’
But it doesn’t stop after the awards. Ms Wilson and her team then need to collect the bling the celebs have been wearing, including jewellery worth tens of thousands of dollars from designers such as Cerrone, Hearts On Fire and Fairfax & Roberts.
“We then have to run around after the Logies broadcast to collect all of the expensive jewellery before the talent go to the after parties to ensure nothing gets lost,’’ she said.
