Man and pooch are inseparable, but in an emergency they could be torn apart. With your help this Christmas, pets could have the pawfect home until they are reunited with their soulmates.

The Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) Christmas Appeal is calling on Gold Coasters to help raise $55,000 to fund their emergency boarding program and support felines, like Molly.

Four months ago an elderly Gold Coast woman was rushed to hospital, but her 8-year-old cat Molly was left behind.

Thanks to the animal welfare program Molly was collected and sent to foster carer Megan Beddows for tender loving care while her owner was recovering.

“Our service is in high demand,” AWLQ spokeswoman Rachel Wills said.

“This is not for people going on holiday. It is for people who have no one and need a hand when they are homeless, hospitalised, mentally-ill or in other emergency situations.

“Christmas is not always happy for everyone, and we just want to make lives easier.”

Megan Beddows, 28, said the community should dig deep because you would hope the service would be there for if you needed it one day.

“We need to support those who have very little at this time, most them are in dire situations,” she said. “When soulmates are separated it is heartbreaking.”
