Finance minister: There will be 'structural adjustments' post JobKeeper

Struggling Victorian small businesses are being offered free advice to help them bounce back from the financial impacts of the pandemic.

PwC Australia is rolling out free consultations to small businesses as well as entrepreneurs and start-ups to support them in their economic recovery.

Beginning later this month the hubs will provide a team of specialists in areas including financial management and cash flow, tax advice, restructuring, debt management and digitisation.

PwC managing partner in Melbourne Peter Konidaris said, “there’s optimism in the air in 2021” and this is a great opportunity to help smaller operators try and get back on their feet.

“Small businesses are very much the heartbeat of the Melbourne and Victorian economy and notwithstanding COVID and 2020 was a really tough year, 2021 provides a great opportunity for them to bounce back,” he said.

“Everyone is welcome to come along, register and put their names today and we will have experts standing by to help them.”

Other specialist services that will be available including legal assistance, business consulting, revenue growth, productivity and tenancy negotiations.

Mr Konidaris said many businesses would have to reassess the way they operate to ensure they are financially viable moving forward.

“Many organisations are going to need to make permanent changes to the way they operate and plan for the future,” he said.

The Council of Small Business Organisations Australia’s chief executive officer Peter Strong welcomed the free help and said small entities who need assistance should consider it.

“It’s great, if you don’t have an accountant and need help take advantage of this,” he said.

“We are all in it together and this is really good to see, if you are desperate and don’t have any advisers take this up.

“But if you do have an accountant and they know more about your business you should see them.”

Latest Australian Taxation Office figures showed Victoria received the bulk of Jobkeeper 2.0 payments, accounting for almost 40 per cent that were dished out in October and November.

JobKeeper payments are due to end on March 28.

The workshops begin on Monday, February 22 and run through until Friday, February 26.

The hubs will be located at the StartSpace in the State Library of Victoria and Arts Centre in Melbourne.
