'Very humbling': Qld farmers awarded The Weekly Times Coles Farmers of the Year

A Filipino businessman and property developer is selling his 559,000ha central Australian cattle station, listing it for sale after 10 years of ownership.

Romeo Roxas, via his entity Australian Green Properties, is selling the Murray Downs station, located 400km north of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory’s lower Barkly Downs region.

In 2015 Mr Roxas purchased the Murray Downs station as well as the 265,000ha Epenarra Station, later adding the 275,200ha Pine Hill station to his holding, before selling it in 2019.

Now aged 85, Mr Roxas has decided to consolidate his Australian agricultural assets, listing the Murray Downs station for sale, walk-in walk-out, where it is expected to be worth in the vicinity of $40 million.

In recent years the property has carried a 10,000-head Santa Gertrudis cross herd plus cow followers, which is offered as part of the listing.

Landmark Russell agent David Russell is handling the sale of the Murray Downs station, via expressions of interest closing September 6.

“It is a turnkey operation and we expect interest from corporate buyers as well as northern cattle operations looking to expand,” he said.

“With previous sales, there is very little of this size and capacity available. The station is also in good heart with a good bulk of feed.

“In the past five years millions have been spent to improve water infrastructure, fencing and improving living quarters.”

A director of the Philippine Veterans Bank, Mr Roxas is also president of the Green Square Properties Corp and the Green Circle Properties and Resources Inc. who have planned cities in the Aurora and Quezon provinces on the eastern Philippines coast.

Comprising soft mulga and buffel grazing country the station also includes the Davenport Ranges to the north, as well as the Amelia, Skinner and Murray Creeks.

Alongside the main four-bedroom homestead, worker’s cottage and worker’s quarters the station also comprises a community store constructed in 2018.

About 70km of new laneway system, along with 310km of new barb wire fencing and extensive cattle yards and machinery shedding are part of the farming infrastructure at Murray Downs.

The Imangara indigenous community also resides on the station.

Meanwhile, offers worth more than $30 million are expected for Peter Camp and family’s Kalyeeda Station, located 140km southwest of Fitzroy Crossing in WA’s Kimberley region.

Owned by the Camp family for about 25 years the 122,000ha station is for sale via expressions of interest alongside 8100 good quality mostly Droughtmaster type cattle.

Greg Smith from Elders Perth is handling the sale of Kalyeeda Station.
