Woman, 44, arrested by police after allegedly causing dramatic four-car crash at Tweed Heads

POLICE are eager to speak to a woman who allegedly caused a four-vehicle crash at Tweed Heads by overtaking cars on the wrong side of the road at speed.

It is alleged the 44-year-old woman was speeding in a silver Toyota Prado on the wrong side of Dry Dock Rd about 4.20pm on Sunday when she collided with another car.

A Tweed Byron Police District spokesman said the impact caused the woman’s SUV to spin out of control.

The spokesman said it collided with another driver, a telegraph pole and a parked car before stopping.

He said the driver of the first car that was hit and her 13-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.

“The front-seat passenger in the second vehicle, an 82-year-old woman, was trapped in the wreckage and had to be released by Fire and Rescue NSW and Volunteer Rescue Association members,” he said.

“She was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“A 50-year-old woman and three 16-year-old girls travelling in the third vehicle also escaped with minor injuries.”

TWO DEAD AFTER FRIGHTENING BEAUDESERT CRASH

Vanessa Jarrett told the Banora Point Community News Facebook page she arrived at the scene just after the accident.

“Didn’t look good, many vehicles involved and police running from car to car.”

Kimberley Curtis Pozar said: “We pulled into the convenience store and the car behind us was taken out.”

Police arrested the 44-year-old woman at the scene and took her to The Tweed Hospital for mandatory testing.

She remains in hospital. Inquiries are continuing.
