MORE than $6.4 million will be spent upgrading two busy Gold Coast intersections as part of a $400 million roads package.

Further north, the intersection of Beaudesert-Nerang Road and Maudsland Road will also be revamped.

“Queenslanders have been united in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, and these projects are crucial to facing the pandemic’s economic impacts head-on,” said Gaven MP Meaghan Scanlon.

“$6.4 million will be spent on upgrading these intersections, which will be welcome news for locals who use them every day.

“The Toolona Street intersection is the main access point to Tugun’s shopping precinct, while the Maudsland Road intersection is a key connection point for hinterland residents taking the back road between Oxenford and Nerang.”

The projects will create 20 jobs.

Mayor Tom Tate welcomed the funding boost.

“This is a known congestion point for residents of the area and upgrade of this intersection will benefit both residents and visitors alike, as the Tugun area continues to grow,” Cr Tate said.

Work will begin later this year.
