CONSTRUCTION work has begun on two of the Gold Coast biggest projects.
Surveyors are out on the ground in the city’s north mapping out the Coomera Connector, while road crews have begun relocating utilities as the first step for the $1 billion M1 upgrade between Varsity Lakes and Tugun.
These projects are beginning as the final stages of work continue on the $197 million widening of the M1 between Mudgeeraba and Varsity Lakes.
HOW LONG COOMERA CONNECTOR WILL TAKE TO BUILD
Transport Minister Mark Bailey said work on both projects would employ a large number of Gold Coast companies.
“The Government’s M1 program has already created steady work for many local operators, and this will only ramp up with upgrades five times bigger to get underway later this year,” he said.
"We are building a better M1 and getting on with the second M1."

The Coomera Connector will take up to 60,000 vehicles off the M1, while the M1 upgrade will increase the Pacific Motorway’s capacity through to the NSW border.
Among the local companies getting work is Ormeau’s Lantrak Resource Management and its subcontractors.
