ROAD workers will scale rock walls alongside two of the Gold Coast’s busiest roads in coming days as part of safety works.
Work will begin to stabilise rock faces at Burleigh Heads and on the western side of the M1 at Tugun.
Transport Minister Mark Bailey said the projects would provide safety benefits to motorists and pedestrians in Burleigh.

“The RoadTek crews will be on ropes as they install protection mesh, scale loose rocks, install rock anchors and generally secure the rock face,” he said.
“These workers are highly skilled working at heights, having played important roles in fixing roads and clearing landslips for the Coast’s Hinterland communities following cyclones and bushfires.”
The month-long work on the Gold Coast Highway at Burleigh this week followed by a second round of modifications from late September until late November.
WORK BEGINS ON COOMERA CONNECTOR
Mr Bailey said some noise and dust would occur as a result of the work.
“There may be short delays for access to the footpath along Burleigh Heads National Park between Cotton Street to Ikkina Road,” he said.
Work will also begin next month on fixing a rock face on the western side of the M1 at Tugun.
This project will stabilise the slope with sprayed shotcrete, removing some slip material, and minor tree and vegetation clearing.
It is expected to take about two weeks to complete.
