GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate has requested the Gold Coast Show public holiday date be moved forward two weeks.

Cr Tate has written to the Minister for Education and Industrial Relations Grace Grace saying he wishes to move the Gold Coast Show public holiday forward from Friday August 28 to Friday August 14.

It is expected the request will be granted.

The move comes after Show organisers yesterday postponed the event until December.

Council voted to withdraw their support from the Show following the announcement.
