Toyota Prado 4WD into building

A CAIRNS woman has allegedly crashed a car into a Mulgrave Rd shop narrowly avoiding running down a man she had been previously arguing with.

Police allege 42-year-old Parramatta Park woman, Justine Kartinyeri, was driving on Mulgrave Rd at 9.15am on Thursday when a verbal argument with her 44-year-old male passenger broke out.

Police stated the woman allegedly stopped the car and the man got out.

Ms Kartinyeri drove a blue hatchback onto the footpath narrowly missing the man before crashing into the Acumentis Property building, police allege.

Senior Constable Martin Shephard said the man was fortunate to have not been injured.

“A very lucky escape and it could have been a lot worse if anybody had been in the road at the time or coming into the building at the time,” he said.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics attended the scene to treat the driver before taking her to Cairns Hospital.

The driver’s injuries were understood to be not serious.

There was little impact to Mulgrave Rd traffic, all northbound lanes remained open.

The driver had been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.

Ms Kartinyeri is expected to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court on September 16.
