An independent analysis of newly-released 2022 NAPLAN results has revealed the schools which performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests.

Rainworth State School, in Bardon, had better primary results than any other school in Brisbane North, scoring an average of 569.8 across the five test subjects.

Rainworth has topped, or been in the top three, for the results every year since the testing began.

Brisbane Grammar School in Brisbane was the second best for the region with an average score of 568.6, while Eagle Junction State School in Clayfield was the third best with an average score of 559.2.

The top performing secondary school was Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics (QASMT) and Technology, in Toowong, with the average result was 684.6.

Since the 100 per cent selective state school opened it has been the top academic performer in Queensland every year.

Brisbane Grammar School in Brisbane was the second best for the region with an average score of 646.0, while Brisbane Girls Grammar School in Brisbane was the third best with an average score of 639.0.

QASMT principal Kath Kayrooz said the school, which offers the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, focused on high-impact strategies to support students through the three phases of learning — surface, deep and transfer.

“The curriculum provides for academic rigour which permeates to performing well on the NAPLAN exams,’’ she said.

“We also accredit their strong performance to the quality of teaching and learning that happens in every classroom, every day, across the year.

“A data approach to learning is embedded within our teaching practice, providing important information on how our students are tracking which allows us to adapt and value add, especially for our highest-achieving students.

“A significant advantage at QASMT is that our students and teachers are like minded in their love of learning.’’

To determine how each school performed in 2022, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (Year 5 or Year 9) were combined and the average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
