HOW does a fine dining experience in your pyjamas sound?

The Star Gold Coast has today launched a new in-home dining concept called Table For 2, where you can enjoy some of your favourite meals from the venue’s top restaurants at home.

The Star general manager of tourism, food strategy and partnerships Michael Hodgson said the initiative is much more than a takeaway service.

“The Star is more about the experience. We didn’t just want to do takeaway dishes,” he said. “We’ve put some surprises in there. You can tailor it for special occasions. You can create a birthday edition, we’ve got some ready-made cocktails from our mixologist.

“We’re recommending you plate the dishes up, lay it out and have a meal.

“One of the things we’ve started experimenting with is the chefs deliver it themselves and then you can finish off (cooking) the meal at home.

“There’s no end to the experiences you can have.”

Restaurants Mei Wei Dumplings, Garden Kitchen & Bar and Kiyomi are all part of the launch, offering some of their top-rated dishes as multi-course share menus.

Each course will also be delivered with a set of instructions about how to present the dish.

Table For 2 is also on offer as a next-level in-room dining option for guests of the hotel.

Mr Hodgson said the service was developed not as a cashflow supplement but more to help staff have an income.

“Particularly with the JobKeeper (payment) we had a number of casuals or people on 457 visas who didn’t qualify,” Mr Hodgson said.

“We wanted to see if we could find a way to get them back to work. That was the original challenge and we wanted it to be a way to try and keep the restaurant brands in people’s minds whilst we were shut.”

The Star Gold Coast offers delivery to homes within about 5km of Broadbeach and pick-up on arrival is also available.
