Aquis Park Turf Club at Bundall hosting 30 stalls as part of weekly farmers’ market which starts this Sunday

Central Gold Coasters needn’t miss out on fresh fruit and vegetables direct from the plot with a once thriving venue set to welcome a new farmers’ market.

Sky Racing News Update: 15th April 2020

CENTRAL Gold Coasters needn’t miss out on fresh fruit and vegetables direct from the plot anymore, with Bundall set to welcome a new farmers’ market.

While a number of farmers markets have closed following coronavirus restrictions, the Aquis Park Turf Club will now host 30 stalls of local producers every Sunday from 6am.

Aquis Park CEO Steve Lines said the markets weren’t devised as a cashflow supplement for the struggling racetrack, rather following through with a plan since late last year.

“We used to have markets and then we got approached by a number of different groups to host them again,” he said.

ENORMOUS OPPORTUNITY FOR JOBS ON THE GOLD COAST

“We’ve negotiated an arrangement to do something in The Meadow, which is on the southern lawn of the racecourse on the street side.

“We’ll have fruit and veg and meat and essential sorts of foods.”

Mr Lines said the markets would have a cap on customers and clear signage to encourage spacing.

“Given the current environment, we’ll comply with what we need to comply with,” Mr Lines said.

“We’ll click them in and click them in as we need to. We’ll put all those protocols in place.”

The turf club is continuing with races without patrons after new zoning allowed clubs across Queensland to carry on.

The club has suffered a $500,000 hit and stood down 320 staff.
