Bride forced to cancel 'dream' wedding after guests refused to gift $1.7k each

"I just wanted to be a Kardashian for a day and then live my life like normal. Filthy, poor excuses of friends I have," she wrote in a scathing Facebook post.

'Bridezilla' ambushes partner at work and demands he marry her

A woman has had to cancel her ‘dream’ wedding - but hold your condolences until you hear the reason why.

The outraged bride-to-be said she was forced into changing her plans after her guests refused to pay the $1700 'entry fee' to cover the cost of the day.

Taking to a wedding support group on Facebook, she explained how she had planned an extravagant ceremony and reception, which ended up being around $68,000.

Susan, who was marrying her childhood sweetheart, admitted it was a “little over budget” so she was forced to ask each of her guests to chip in so that her fairytale wedding could come to life.

"I specifically asked for cash gifts"

After most of them flat-out refused, she informed them that the day could no longer go ahead.

But it wasn’t only her wedding that was canned - she and her fiancé also ended up calling it quits after all the drama unfolded.

"Dear friends, it comes with great sadness that I am announcing the cancellation of the wedding. I apologise for cancelling only four days beforehand," she wrote online.

"Unfortunately, Jason and I have broken up due to some recent and irreparable problems. We have decided to end our relationship and not go forth with any future proceedings.

The post then took a different turn. "I specifically, I mean specifically, asked for cash gifts. How could we have our wedding that we dreamed of without proper funding?" she wrote.

She went on, “We’d sacrificed so much and only asked each guest for around $1,700. We talked to a few people who even promised us more to make our dream come true."

Apparently, the maid of honour, Jason’s family and eight other guests were the only ones who were willing to pay their ‘contribution’ to the big day.

“Like, we made it clear. If you couldn’t contribute, you weren’t invited to our exclusive wedding. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime party," she continued.

"I was told that I was asking for way too much"

Jason’s suggestion to elope and get married in Vegas was the final straw for Susan.

"I laughed in his face, but he was dead serious," she explained. "My ex left the room and didn’t apologise for his horrid suggestion. I then called my maid of honour and cried my eyes out.

"Instead of sympathy, I was told that I was asking for way too much and I should stick to the budget."

So, in addition to cutting ties with her husband-to-be, her MOH also got the flick.

"I just wanted to be a Kardashian for a day and then live my life like normal. I called her a filthy f**king poor excuse of a friend, and hung up," she concluded.

"A guest is there as YOUR guest, which means YOU pay"

The Kidspot team weighed in with their thoughts on the situation, with Jordanna saying, "Don’t have a wedding if you can’t afford it! Keep it to the numbers that are within your budget."

Leah agreed, adding: "Go somewhere cheaper if you can't afford that. Or wait a little longer to save. A guest is there as YOUR guest, which means YOU pay."

"JFC, I bet some of them are thinking, 'It's bad enough I'm obliged to go, and now I have to PAY??'" Nama wrote.

And Clara made the point, "That's not even counting the gift?! That's crazy."

"If your goal was to get as many people to RSVP 'no' as possible, then well done. Otherwise bad news: Whatever wedding you were planning on having, you can't afford it," Em said.
