MEET THE GOLD COAST’S BEST WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
The Coast’s top wedding photographer is queen at telling stories with her camera – and she loves to have a bit of fun with her shoots.
Smile Darling Photography owner Mary Miller, 29, recently won the Gold Coast Bulletins best wedding photographer competition with 36 per cent of the votes.
She said she began taking family photos in 2013 and moved into wedding photography in 2016.
“I love the whole wedding day,” Ms Miller said.
She said she believed her ability to capture authentic moments in any location was what set her apart from others.
“My niche is capturing the fun,” Ms Miller said.
“When you bring the fun to the wedding you can capture the essence of their relationship.
“I specialise in fun, adventurous, care free and relaxed couples.
“It will never be just standing there posing and looking at my camera,” she said.
Ms Miller said she prioritises creating a bond with the couples so they feel comfortable on their big day.
“I try to be there as a best friend rather than someone who is hired to be there,” she said.
Ms Miller travels between Brisbane and Gold Coast but said she was planning on starting a business with celebrant Married by Jay at a private property in Mount Tamborine.
“The venue is an exclusive to Jay and myself, and we are going to start offering intimidate, affordable elopements here from December,” she said.
“You have to stand out in this industry and Jay does things do different.
“I love him, he is so extra.
“At one of our weddings he was the ‘flower celebrant’, where he walked down the aisle first with a bum bag of confetti and a feather boa.”
She said her favourite locations involve natural lighting such as the afternoon sunlight at the beach.
