NORTHERN Gold Coast residents have had their say on the name of the region’s newest school, which is set to open next year.
Close to 500 locals voted on two possible names of the ‘New State Secondary College’ which is currently under construction on Foxwell Road in Coomera East.

A naming committee had whittled the choices down to two possible options for the new education facility — either Foxwell State Secondary College or Marina View State Secondary College.
The committee which was made up of parents, and other public figures said the Foxwell title would celebrate the school’s location on the road which is the “thread that connects the community” and after George Foxwell a pioneer of the Coomera River district.

The Marina View title option was a reference to the school’s unique location and identifies the marina as a local landmark.

The recommendations have been forwarded to the Minister for Education Grace Grace.
Results are likely to be made public in the coming months.
The state-of-the-art $64 million school in Coomera, which will include coding and robotics laboratories, will open from term one next year to 250 Year 7 students.
