Emergency services are at the scene of a crash on the Gold Coast after a car collided with a light pole.

The incident occurred at 3.50pm at Bermuda Street in Burleigh.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said the driver did not appear to be seriously injured.

Paramedics are also currently at the scene assessing the driver.

Lanes have been reduced southbound towards Reedy Creek Rd but no major delays are expected.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) firefighters arrived at the fire just before exit 49 about 12.20pm, a spokeswoman said.

A car fire was “well involved” and the vehicle was engulfed by flames.

The car caught fire while it was on the move and flames were seen trailing under the vehicle before it pulled over, it's understood.

The car fire was extinguished shortly after 12.30pm.

However, a grass fire broke out and was not extinguished until about 12.50pm.

Queensland Police officers were still directing traffic at 1pm and a spokeswoman advised motorists to avoid the area if possible.

Traffic was reportedly at a standstill and backing up to Ormeau.

Officers were finally able to leave the scene shortly after 2pm.

Queensland Ambulance paramedics were not called, but stumbled on the fire while travelling in the area, a spokeswoman said.

No injuries were reported.

The M1 car fire come after a string of sudden and widely publicised vehicle fires across the country involving makes ranging from Holdens to Hyundais.

Some recent vehicle fires on the Coast have been linked to faults, while others have been attributed to thieves stealing and torching vehicles.

Duckling rescued by fire crews after getting lodged in drain at Pimpama - February

February 2: Gold Coast locals are on a mission to reunite a duckling with its mum and dad after it was separated when it washed into a drain this morning.

It took two Queensland fire crews to rescue the baby duck, believed to be one week old, at Pimpama on Tuesday.

The rescue came after a local resident spotted it inside a drain at the centre of the road at Guara Grove about 8am.

Ms Larman said it was the second time ducklings had been swept into the drain in the past year.

“I saw there was one baby down there but when I couldn’t reach so I called the fireys straight away because I knew they had the tools to remove the manhole and get in the drain,” she said.

Fire crews from Pimpama attended the scene at about 8.10am but another truck from Beenleigh was called to assist with the removal of the grate above the drain and to retrieve the duck, which became stuck on a ledge.

“By the time they had rescued the duckling, the mum and dad had taken off because there were so many people around,” Ms Larman said.

A search is now on for the group of ducks, with the online pet store owner saying she had been driving the streets looking for the parents of the duckling.

She has put the call out to Gold Coasters who may have seen the parents of the baby duck and five other ducklings nearby the Guara Grove area to contact her on Facebook.

Ms Larman said she had not named the duckling because she “hoped he or she wont be here that long” and could be reunited with its parents.
