My daughter's birthday is on Halloween, no one will come to her party

"I get that she wants it on her actual birthday but that weekend is going to be booked for most people."

Boo Baskets for kids are a thing now

We all know how significant a kid's birthday is to them, especially when they're young.

But what happens when their big milestone falls on another big calendar event like Halloween?

Well, one mum had to find out the hard way, after her tween daughter sent out invites to her birthday party this weekend, only for none of the girls in her class to RSVP.

"She's so sad - it's heartbreaking to watch"

The mum explained to an advice forum, "My 10-year-old daughter's birthday is on Halloween and for her party, she invited all the kids in her class to a bowling and arcade place. She is new to the school and was really hoping to have girls celebrate with her. I don’t know any of the parents at the school."

She continued, "Unfortunately, the four girls in her class have all declined. I’m trying to comfort her and explain that we can still celebrate with the four boys in her class who said they will come."

The mum then said that her daughter was "really sad" which was "heartbreaking to watch" before asking the group for suggestions about how to help her.

"It's just timing - no one's fault or not liking her"

Most people in the comments were empathetic towards the situation but pointed to the challenges of scheduling an event during such an eventful weekend.

"It probably is just timing, no one's fault or not liking her. I know I have trouble getting to a kid's thing if I only hear about it with a week or two of notice," one said.

Another chimed in, "Yeah, that might play a huge part in why most of her classmates are busy."

"I totally understand that she wants to have the party on her actual birthday but of course, Halloween weekend is going to be booked for most people," someone else claimed.

Then a parent shared their own experience, noting, "My kid has a birthday on Halloween weekend, and I never, ever schedule a party for him that weekend. He always has it a week or two later because everyone has other stuff going on Halloween weekend."

Meanwhile, this user suggested, "I'm guessing OP has some contact info. I would reach out to them and see if an alternative time or date would work. I bet her daughter wouldn’t mind having her birthday a week late if it meant celebrating with classmates."

"Halloween adjacent kid here too. We always do a full week before or a week after. And give LOTS of notice. It seems to help," advised another.
