A HUGELY successful vegetarian eatery on the Gold Coast is hoping to emulate its popularity with a second restaurant in Coolangatta.
Govindas Coolangatta opened today at Griffith Street, a full sister to their Burleigh store on James Street.
Govindas Burleigh and Coolangatta manager Nitai Durr said the restaurant would be very similar in style to their first store, which operates a buffet-style eatery.

“We’ve been in Burleigh for 10 years,” he said.
“Coolangatta was the next thing, the area needs some love.
“I’d seen a few businesses up for rent … and now there’s a bit happening on the southern end of the Gold Coast.”
Mr Durr said like Burleigh, the restaurant was set just one street back from the beach and still close enough to all the “hustle and bustle.”

Both restaurants are owned by a local Hare Krishna community, based in Murwillumbah.
All profits from the restaurant go back into community projects and charities, as well as back into a working, organic farm in Murwillumbah that the temple owns.
“Our food is about loving consciousness, it’s part of our culture to share our food,” he said.
The produce used in the restaurants usually come from their organic farm or from local producers.
“Sometimes we get 700kg of sweet potatoes (from the farm) that we need to use,” Mr Durr said.

“Whatever comes up that we can get, we’ll use.”
Mr Durr said the key thing about Govindas food was that it was healthy, readily available, delicious and affordable.
Foodies can grab a container of food from the restaurant starting at $10.
Mr Durr said hundreds of people came through the Burleigh store each day and Coolangatta would likely follow in its footsteps in the future.
“Many of our Burleigh customers come multiple times a week, so I feel Cooly will be the same once the word is out,” he said.
While there are other Govindas stores across the state, this is the second store the Murwillumbah Hare Krishnas are opening.
The restaurant will open 11am to 8pm, seven days a week.
