Australian Federal election 2019: Pre-poll station locations open across Gold Coast

Thousands of Gold Coasters have already turned out to polling stations across the region. Here’s where to cast your early vote.

A STEADY stream of voters have been passing through the doors of pre-polling centres across the Gold Coast to cast their vote in the federal election.

Aaron Santelises, Labor’s candidate for McPherson, greeted voters at the Robina pre-polling station and said early voting had become an important part of campaigning.

“It’s quite important to be here and to greet the voters and talk to them about what’s important to them for the community,” he said.

“(Pre-polling) is becoming more popular. There’s been an interesting crowd today and it’s been busy.

“The race has started but I like a good, fun political campaign. It’s a passion of mine to be involved in politics and serve my community so it’s been a bit stressful, but fun and exciting.”

One voter, who didn’t wish to be named, said she was going to be interstate come election day on May 18.

“I have a wedding and my son’s going to do his basic training for the army reserves so neither of us will be home on the day,” she said.

“People don’t do queues as well as they used to so a lot of people are finding it a lot more convenient to do this.

“I think (in the election) we’re seeing various shades of beige, we’ve lost the ability to engage in proper meaningful debate.”
