Gold Coast mum’s love of baking led to encounters with celebrities and appearing on national cook off show
A Gold Coast mother with a hobby for baking has had some incredible encounters with celebrities keen to try her delicacies. Now, she will compete against other bakers in a national TV show.

A HOBBY for Gold Coast mum Annette Peffers has seen her meet superstar celebrities and appear on national TV.
Ms Peffers is part of the cast of 12 contestants on the new season of Foxtel Lifestyle Channel’s The Great Australian Bake Off, a cook-off show looking to crown Australia’s best amateur baker under the judgement of Matt Moran and Maggie Beer.
Since taking up baking in earnest eight years ago, Ms Peffers, from Tallebudgera Valley, has catered for movie sets where her delicacies have been enjoyed by Johnny Depp, Chris Hemsworth and even Samuel L Jackson.

“I have a friend on the Gold Coast, we made a cake for Johnny Depp, we got to take his cake up to the set of the Pirates of the Caribbean and sing happy birthday,” she said.

“We made cakes for Chris Hemsworth. The cake that was made for Tom Hiddleston, I know that Samuel L Jackson ate some of it.
“To me at the end of the day, they’re just people, they deserve to have a nice happy birthday. It doesn’t faze me, I’m quite modest.”

LOCAL PASTRY CHEF A HIT AMONG CELEBRITIES
Ms Peffers, who is originally from Scotland, said her love for baking was passed down by her grandmother and mother.
She said the most memorable moment from her time on the show was meeting Ms Beer and Mr Moran, and forming bonds with her fellow contestants.
“You are a little family, you connect with all of these 11 other people,” Ms Peffers said.
“We’re all creative minds, we all think alike and we all have this passion. Who doesn’t like to get together and bake and eat cakes?”
Season four of The Great Australian Bake Off premieres on October 4 on Lifestyle.
