Gold Coast traffic: Heavy congestion on the M1 after a ute caught on fire

Traffic took nearly an hour to clear on M1 after a ute caught fire at on ramp in the city’s north this morning.

TRAFFIC took nearly an hour to clear on M1 after a ute caught fire at on ramp in the city’s north this morning.

Firefighters were called to the soundbound lanes near an on-ramp at Ormeau shortly after 10.20am after a ute broke out in flames.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said when they arrived on scene the fire had been extinguished by a water truck.

Police and traffic management were on scene and closed one of the southbound lanes.

The ute has since been removed and the lane has reopened but there is still congestion through the area.
